Tiago Ferreira, Ph.D. is an aquatic ecologist from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He has a degree in Biological Science from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, as well as a Masters Degree in Ecology and a PhD from the same University. 

During his PhD, Dr Ferreira evaluated the positive influence of submerged macrophytes on water quality in shallow lakes as well as their role in controlling cyanobacteria in these systems.  The research consisted of lab and field tests with macrophytes and geo-engineering solutions, such as Phoslock, to limit cyanobacterial growth, as well as the mathematical modelling of the carrying capacity of reservoirs.

Dr Ferreira is a co-author of “Ecological Modelling in Aquatic Ecosystems”, an unique work in Brazil. Following the completion of his PhD, Dr Ferreira founded Hydroscience, a company specialising in the restoration of Brazilian lakes and drinking water reservoirs.
