"Lock and Grow"

"Lock & Grow" is attracting increasing interest and is one of LSI’s favourite restoration measures

Our scientists are pioneers in the “Lock and Grow” method

The “Lock and Grow” Concept is a two-step procedure aimed at achieving a sustainable ecological recovery in eutrophic water bodies suffering from internal phosphorus loading.

Although the technique is still relatively novel, it is attracting increasing interest among lake managers and is one of LSI’s favourite restoration measures.

In the first-step, a P binder such as Phoslock is applied to the lake to prevent sediment P release and create suitable conditions for macrophyte planting. The second and final step in the technique is usually undertaken some weeks later and involves the selection and planting of desirable macrophyte species such as Characean.

Our scientists are pioneers in the “Lock and Grow” method and have many years’ experience in both nutrient inactivation as well as macrophyte selection and planting.
