Karin Pall, PhD., studied biology, chemistry and sports at the Technical University Munich, Germany (Masters Degree). She undertook further studies in biology and ecology at the Universities of Vienna and Innsbruck, Austria, where she completed her PhD on the Ecological Quality Assessment of Lakes using Aquatic Macrophytes. 

Karin Pall is CEO of Systema GmbH in Vienna, Austria The Systema team consists of scientists, scuba-divers, engineers and IT-experts and is specialised in the investigation, documentation, assessment and management of aquatic vegetation. 

Systema has particular expertise in the re-establishment of macrophyte vegetation in lakes as a management tool for the restoration of impaired aquatic systems. Charophytes only grow in water bodies with a low trophic state and, therefore, the removal and binding of phosphorus is usually an essential pre-requisite for their successful establishment. 

As a result, Systema and LSI have formed a close partnership to develop the “Lock and Grow” concept, an innovative management tool which combines nutrient inactivation with a subsequent macrophyte-planting. LSI provides the know-how in lake assessments and nutrient inactivation while Systema offers its vast experience in macrophyte planting, especially with charophytes.
