Dr James Dabrowski

James Dabrowski has a PhD in Freshwater Ecology from the University of Cape Town, South Africa. Through previous employment with the Department of Water and Sanitation and the CSIR, James has built up a wide knowledge of water resource related issues in South Africa.


His research career has focussed on the fields of aquatic ecology, aquatic ecotoxicology, water quality, limnology and ecological risk assessment.


More recently, through practicing as a consultant, James has built up extensive experience in conducting specialist freshwater and water resource studies for EIAs, biodiversity surveys and biodiversity offsets throughout South Africa as well as in Liberia, Namibia and Mozambique. This has led to a firm understanding of legislative and international best practice (e.g. IFC Performance Standard 6) requirements for such studies.


Throughout his research career he has built up expertise in the field of GIS and catchment scale modelling. James is an NRF rated researcher (C2), has published almost 30 papers in local and international scientific journals and is associate editor for the Bulletin of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry.


He is currently an Associate of the Freshwater Research Centre (FRC) and a Research Associate at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University.
