Originally from South Africa, Jackie Dabrowski lived in the United Kingdom and New Zealand for eight years where she completed post-graduate studies in freshwater science. She first developed a keen interest in freshwater ecology during her B.Sc. at the University of Canterbury (NZ).

Her research during post-graduate studies encompassed several aspects of freshwater science including lake food webs, fish health and endocrine function, fish kills, impacts of multiple stressors (pollutants) at local and catchment scales, metal bioaccumulation, limnology and long-term trend analyses of water quality.

Having completed her M.Sc. and Ph.D. at the University of Pretoria by 2012, she began her research career at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) where she led research projects, developed junior staff, published scientific and popular articles, and secured research funding. With continued development and personal growth in mind, Jackie started Confluent Environmental (Pty) Ltd in 2016, a consulting and research company with a primary focus on freshwater science.

Jackie applies her knowledge gained through research to various environmental and water management processes such as Environmental Impact Assessments, Rehabilitation Plans, and Water Use License applications. Her consulting experience covers a range of sectors including agriculture, mining, industry, urban development, recreation and transport.

Through her affiliations with the University of Pretoria (Extraordinary Lecturer) and Nelson Mandela University (Research Associate) Jackie maintains her links to academia through student supervision and research project leadership.
